About Mental Alive
Psychiatric care built on time, compassion, and respect, for every patient, in the language they feel most comfortable with.

Meet Marguerite Joseph, PMHNP-BC
Marguerite (Margo) Joseph is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Mental Alive.
Her work in healthcare started at the bedside. Margo has been a nurse since 2009. She worked in hospitals, and she also worked as a travel nurse across the USA, which gave her the chance to care for many different people and communities. In 2021, after years of nursing, she became a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Margo chose to work in mental health because she saw a need that was not being met.
In both inpatient psychiatric units, where patients stay during a serious mental health crisis, and in outpatient care, she saw the same thing again and again: people who were suffering, carrying the weight of stigma, and not getting the care they deserved. She believes mental health is just as important as physical health. The same way a person can be sick in their body, they can also be sick in their mind. And no one should have to suffer in silence because of shame or because they cannot get help.
She started Mental Alive so she could care for patients the way she believes care should be given: unhurried, personal, and centered on the patient. People living with mental health conditions need time. They need to feel heard. They need a provider who knows them and stays with them through their care. That is hard to do in a rushed fifteen-minute visit, and it is the kind of care Margo built her practice to give.
Margo provides care in English and Creole, so patients can receive psychiatric support in the language that feels most comfortable to them. For many of her patients, being able to speak about something as personal as mental health in their own language is the difference between starting care and walking away. She is committed to treating every adult who comes to her with the same dignity and quality of care, no matter their background, language, or situation.
Outside of work, Margo is a wife and mother who treasures time with her family above everything else. She is quiet and introverted by nature, and she values a small circle and real, genuine connection. It is the same quality that makes her a patient and caring listener for the people she treats.
If you have been waiting to feel better, or you have tried care before and it did not fit, Margo would be glad to meet you.
Our Approach
Mental Alive was built around a simple idea: care should feel personal, not rushed.
We take the time to understand the whole person. Not just a list of symptoms, but your story, your goals, and what you want from your care. We work together. You will always understand your diagnosis, your choices, and the reason behind every recommendation.
We treat mental health the way it should be treated: seriously, kindly, and without judgment. Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD, or recovery from opioid or alcohol use, you will be treated with respect and given a plan built around your life.
What You Can Expect
